Very interesting story.. The protagonist goes from a limited view of reality to amazing exploits. In a way, it's a parable for "discovery" of the real world that I see at the university (where I teach), for local students who travel into new geographical areas with new ideas - a very eye-opening experience. A limited life experience opens unexpected vistas, and challenges behavioral "norms". Damon takes on a new role in a dystopian future, based on scientific advances, becomes a person he never expected (a demon?), but then re-examines his motives and takes advantage of his new-found abilities - perhaps he doesn't have to be a "tool of the state"! I enjoyed it on two levels - a metaphor for human growth, and some good, speculative sci-fi. What would you do if you suddenly found yourself with nearly unlimited abilities? I believe there is a good opportunity for further exploits here and look forward to a sequel to see Damon grow and flourish.Product details

I purchased the book because the author is my neighbor. Since I am not a science fiction I would not have picked up the book but I am glad I did. Can’t say too much about the sci-fi elements but the story line was good and held my interest. I have read other author’s first attempts (other genres) and this was the best one yet. I would recommend it and would purchase his second book.
Fun read. Sci-fi with humans roaming the galaxy and advanced technology including weaponized body augmentation. Religious undertones mixed with power hungry politics at a galactic level. Add in a hero who transitions from a city based protector to a... well, you'll just have to read the book .
Its a fun read. Very good for a first book. It got a little rushed at the end, making it a little hard to follow, but overall the subject of the book was a good one, and I enjoyed it.
An excellent, fun sci-fi thriller, where humans have expanded their reach to a number of habitable planetary systems and are ruled by a counsel consisting of a number of powerful families. The introduction of an augmented human super-warrior to allow control of the systems, hearkens to the time tested sci-fi thrillers where a powerful weapon, placed in the hands of power hungry rulers, goes terribly wrong. The plot and characters draw thought provoking parallels to our history and current world order. This is a terrific thriller and great story of human redemption. Highly recommended as a fun Summer read!
Shedding the Demon, was an impulse purchase, one I'm glad I made. There are definitely some similarities to the augmentations the Spartan II's (from Halo) underwent, however, any similarities end there. I liked the ideas behind D-SAP, and how it was used to make Demon into the ultimate weapon. Anyone who likes "Super Soldier" type books will definitely enjoy this one. For the author's first novel, I give him a lot of credit for his ability to create a top notch "future warfare" type book, with believable characters and mostly believable technology and weapons. For someone without the resources of a publication house or agent, the book surprisingly held very few errors or missed words. Keep on writing Bill Denise, you've got a knack for it. I look forward to your next book.
